In Stone & Snow

Stone is a composite merging a figurative nude with a close-up of a stratified rock face canyon wall, its sedimentary layers laid bare in bands of ochre, rust, and chalk white.

Where Lily dissolves the body into water and softness, Stone does the opposite: it transforms. The figure — seen from behind, standing, hair cascading over one shoulder — is rendered in the same geological vocabulary as the cliff face behind and within her. The horizontal striations of the rock map directly onto the curves of the torso, so that waist, hip, and thigh read simultaneously as landform. The body is not standing against the rock; it has become the rock.

The palette is mineral throughout — the effect is monumental and ancient, suggesting that the human form is not merely in the landscape but is of the same substance, shaped by the same slow forces.

Together with Lily, this work forms a natural diptych around elemental opposites: water and earth, horizontal repose and vertical standing, dissolution and permanence.

Printed on Hahnemühle William Turner archival media, in a custom wood frame with 3" Passe-Partout, natural white and glossy float glass. Limited Edition.
